Description: Rifaximin is a rifamycin derivative antibiotic drug that is used to treat diarrhoea caused by certain types of bacteria. It works by blocking bacterial DNA synthesis. It is not absorbed well by the stomach lining, so it does not cause any side effects. It is also effective at treating gastrointestinal infections caused by Escherichia coli (E. coli), Salmonella spp., Shigella spp., Campylobacter jejuni, Yersinia enterocolitica, and Clostridium difficile.
